Fabral Metal Wall And Roof Systems

VISION House ’11 – Features Fabral

The versatility of metal puts sustainable design within reach for architects and builders. A great example of how to incorporate metal can be seen in the design of VISION House “11, a 3.000 square-foot, two-story sustainable home in Orlando, Fl. The home was one of seven on display at the International Builders Show earlier this year.

Among the architectural features, Fabral's metal roof and corrugated metal wall panels. The roof includes 31 squares of 1 1/2" SSR standing-seam panels, and the walls feature 7 squares of 2 1/2" corrugated panels. SSR is a classic style metal roof with narrow batten standing seams. Designed for longevity against rain, snow and wind, this system also provides elegance and durability.

Metal Named as Top Fire Resistant Roof and Wall Material

2011 is proving to be a dangerous year for wildfires, with more than a half million acres burned so far this year. In response to the devastation, the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) conducted its first-ever full-scale wildfire demonstration to show how some commonly used building materials and items near the house can ignite from the embers. The IBHS demonstration highlighted a few keys to making a building more fire resistant, among them installing a fire-resistant roof.

  • Replace combustible wood shake roofs with a Class A roof.
  • Use metal angle flashing at the roof edge to protect the roof sheathing and fascia board.
  • Make sure end-stops are installed at the edge of your roof, if roof covering has a gap between it and the roof sheathing.
